Mama duck returns to Sterling perch; fowl fans can watch live

Duck Alert

By Pinch staff

SPOKANE — For the second year in a row, a mother duck has made her nest and laid her eggs in a planter box on the second floor of the Sherwood Building in downtown Spokane.

Last year, Joel Armstrong and other employees of Sterling Savings Bank helped the duck and 10 hatched ducklings off the ledge and several blocks away to the safety of the Spokane River, a tale that rocketed around the world via the Internet.

This year, The Spokesman-Review and Sterling Savings set up a webcam to monitor the duck’s progress. The duck is visible toward the middle of the planter box, with her eggs to the left.

Video stream of the Duck Cam provided via Ustream. If video goes temporarily “off air,” you can refresh this page to see the webcam feed again.

People can tune in to the Duck Cam for the daily adventures, or sometimes lack thereof, at www.spokesman.com/duckcam/
