Morrow out as M’s closer
SEATTLE – Less than one week after returning from a disabled list stint he didn’t want to take, Brandon Morrow is out as the Mariners’ closer.
Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu said Friday he was removing the team’s fifth overall draft choice in 2006 from the crucial job, after Morrow blew saves in consecutive losses this week to end a 1-7 road trip. Wakamatsu called the failures “devastation.”
He added there’s no timetable on Morrow returning to the closer role.
Wakamatsu said David Aardsma, a recent castoff of Boston, will lead a rotation of relievers who will finish games based on specific situations.
