Officials lower speed limit

The speed limit on East Mission Avenue near Valley Mission Park in Spokane Valley has been lowered from 35 mph to its summer season speed limit of 20 mph. The reduced speed will be in effect through the Labor Day holiday.

“We lower the speed limit each summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day,” said Spokane Valley traffic senior engineer Inga Note. “Not only are there more children using the park, the crosswalk gets increased usage because the overflow parking lot is located across Mission Avenue.”

This summer Valley Mission Park is likely to experience increased use as improvements will be completed June 17 on the pool, play equipment, picnic shelter, security lighting and landscaping.

Schools will be released for summer vacation between June 12 and June 19, and more children will be utilizing the city parks. A city official urged caution when driving in the Valley Mission area and around other city parks.
