Traffic stop ends with meth arrest

A missing bumper and defective lighting led to the arrest of a Spokane woman Thursday morning after a Spokane Valley police officer allegedly found her with six small baggies containing methamphetamine.

Officer Cole Speer was patrolling the area of Sprague and Mayhew when he spotted a car that was missing its rear bumper and license plate illumination, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. He stopped the vehicle and the driver, 46-year-old James L. Davis, handed him a Department of Corrections card rather than a driver’s license.

Cole ran a driver’s license check on Davis and learned that his was suspended and that he had a warrant charging him with escape. He arrested the man and placed him in his patrol car.

Davis asked the officer to collect his wallet and phone from the car, and Speer asked the female passenger to step out so he could safely retrieve the items. When he asked the woman if she had any weapons on her person, she said that she didn’t, but did have methamphetamine in her pocket.

Speer arrested her based on the statement and found a metal tin containing six baggies of the drug. He also found a sack containing syringes, scales, cotton swabs and plastic baggies beneath the seat where 33-year-old Carrie A. Fehr had been seated.

He drove both to the Spokane County Jail where he booked Davis on the arrest warrant and driving while license suspended and Fehr for possession of methamphetamine.
