Region in brief: Man arrested when raid nets meth in Valley home

From Staff Reports

Spokane County sheriff’s detectives raided a Spokane Valley home Tuesday and recovered a small amount of methamphetamine.

Arrested was James P. McCormick, 40, who is accused of selling the drug from his home in the 2000 block of South Woodlawn in the Terrace View neighborhood, said Sgt. Dave Reagan, sheriff’s spokesman.

McCormick was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a count of possession of meth with intent to deliver. Additional criminal charges are pending based on prior undercover purchases of meth from the home, Reagan said.

Radar, helicopter spot alleged drunken driver

A sheriff’s helicopter used infrared radar to locate an Airway Heights motorist who police say was racing along West Plains roads at speeds in excess of 100 mph early Saturday.

Jared H. Horton, 22, was arrested after abandoning his 1998 Chevy Malibu in a driveway along Lewis Road and running into a marsh, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest came after Spokane County sheriff’s Deputy Chuck Sciortino tried to pull him over on Sunset Highway near Lewis Road about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

The sheriff’s Air One helicopter located Horton using its “forward-looking radar.”

Horton was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, obstructing a police officer and reckless driving.

Police release audio of robbery, seek tips

Spokane police hope an audio recording released Tuesday will help them find two men who robbed a northwest Spokane Subway restaurant last month.

Two robbers held an employee of the store at 1103 W. Northwest Blvd. at knifepoint Oct. 22 before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The men can be heard in the recording telling an employee to lie down, followed by an apparent struggle. The employee then tells 911 operators he’d been attacked with a mop bucket.

Listen to the audio.

The men were described as black, of medium build, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and wearing black sweatshirts with the hoods pulled down over their faces. Anyone with information can call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

Post Falls water receives semiannual chlorination

The city of Post Falls is adding chlorine to the water system and will continue to do so through Nov. 22.

The chlorination process, completed each spring and fall, is part of the city’s maintenance program to ensure safe water, a city news release said.

Residents may notice a different odor or taste during the chlorination process. It can be diminished by letting drinking water sit out several hours or overnight, the release said. For more information, call the city at (208) 777-9857.
