In brief: Eagles host drive for food bank

COEUR D’ALENE – The Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge will host a food drive on Thursday at the Lodge, 209 E. Sherman Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Tom Sherry of KREM-2 will cover the event with live broadcasts at 5 and 6 p.m.

Participants who bring four food items to donate, such as tuna fish, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned fruit or canned vegetables, will receive a free burger.

The “Tom Sherry Burger” also will be available for $10. All proceeds will benefit the food bank.

Film group hosts lunch at Ivano’s

SANDPOINT – On Thursday, Northwest Independent Film Video and Entertainment Society will have a luncheon at Ivano’s Restaurant and Café, 102 S. First Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The theme of the meeting will be “Film Festivals in Idaho,” and Peg Owens from the Idaho Film Office will be the guest speaker. Trevor Greenfield will talk about the upcoming Lakedance International Film Festival in Sandpoint, and Sheri Stone, of the Songbird Theatre in Coeur d’Alene, will also give a presentation.

Cost for lunch is $12.

McManus play onstage at Panida

SANDPOINT – Actor Tim Behrens brings “Poor Again … Dagnabbit!” a new comedy by Patrick F. McManus, to the stage at the Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., on Friday at 8 p.m.

Cost for the show is $17 general admission and $12 for youths. Tickets can be purchased at Eichardt’s Pub, 212 W. Cedar St., Pack River Potions, 300 N. First Ave., and Eve’s Leaves, 326 N. First Ave.

Artist’s drawings at NIC gallery

COEUR D’ALENE – Local artist Elaine Green will have her charcoal drawings, titled “Out of the Dark,” on exhibit in the Boswell Hall Corner Gallery at North Idaho College through Oct. 30.

Green studied art at Spokane Falls Community College and Eastern Washington University and received a master’s degree in fine art from the University of Idaho. She has taught art in Spokane and at the University of Idaho.

The Boswell Hall Corner Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

Car seat safety check Oct. 19

HAYDEN – Kootenai Health, Safe Kids and Panhandle Health District will host a Safe Kids car seat check Oct. 19 at the Panhandle Health District, 8500 N. Atlas Road in Hayden, from 1 to 4 p.m. Certified car seat technicians will conduct the free car seat inspections.

A limited number of new car seats will be available, to those who qualify, for a minimum $5 donation.

Holcomb receives volunteer award

RATHDRUM – George Holcomb, of Rathdrum, recently received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Senior Companion program, sponsored by the Panhandle Health District.

As a senior companion, Holcomb has volunteered to work with dementia patients for the past seven years, helping seniors with grocery shopping and transportation so that they are able to continue living at home.

Through the senior companion program, Holcomb has given more than 9,400 hours to individuals and their families living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
