Churches plan fall celebrations

Fall is in the air, and Valley churches are hosting a variety of seasonal events this week, including a harvest dinner, a festival and a craft fair.

•Veradale United Church of Christ will hold its 69th annual Harvest Dinner next Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend the long-standing event that is the church’s major fundraiser.

The menu includes turkey with all the trimmings, ham, Swedish meatballs and squash from the church garden. Several baskets also will be raffled off during the event.

The cost of the meal is by donation. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road. Call (509) 926-7173 for more information.

•Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host a Harvest Festival next Saturday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There will be pumpkin carving, food and other family activities. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.

•St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road, will put on its annual fall craft fair next Saturday and Oct. 25. There will be crafts and baked goods plus a raffle for $100 cash, a quilt and restaurant gift certificates. Food will be available for purchase on Saturday, and there will be coffee and doughnuts both days. Admission to the event is free. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 25.

Halloween

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church is getting a jump on Halloween by hosting its Trunk-r-Treat event next Saturday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Children can come and trick-or-treat from decorated car trunks and truck beds in the church parking lot. The event is open to children up to the fifth grade. Costumes should not show bloody, violent or evil themes. If families get cold they can stop inside the Fellowship Hall for doughnuts and hot cider.

The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.
