Region in brief: Police say men aided robbery

Two Deer Park men have been identified as accomplices in a pharmacy robbery police linked to a 20-year-old woman.

Jed L. Boles, 31, and William E. Higgins, 21, face charges of first-degree robbery for allegedly helping Ariel A. Arrieta rob the Rite Aid at 5520 N. Division St. on Sept. 27, the Spokane Police Department announced Monday.

Arrieta’s boyfriend told police she drove with two men, who police identified as Higgins and Boles, to the pharmacy, according to a probable cause affidavit. Arrieta also is a suspect in an attempted robbery Oct. 12 at the Rite Aid at Wandermere Mall.

Anyone with information on Higgins or Boles is asked to call Crime Check at (509)456-2233.

Lake Roosevelt ferry in service

The ferry that provides vehicle service across Lake Roosevelt north of Wilbur is returning to service today at noon after a leak was discovered last week.

Martha S. had a pinhole leak in the hull and was moved to a dry dock facility at Grand Coulee Dam for repairs.

A section of the hull was removed and a new steel plate was welded into place. The cost of the repair was less than $30,000.

The Martha S. provides service 18 hours a day on a two-mile crossing of state Highway 21 that runs between Wilbur and Republic.

Keller is just north of the reservoir along the Sanpoil River. The ferry has been running since 1948.

Coroner rules death homicide

The Spokane County Medical Examiner ruled that a 25-year-old man whose body was found wrapped in a blanket along Day-Mt. Spokane Road on Sunday morning died from homicidal violence.

The body was found by two women out for a walk, sheriff’s deputies said.

The cause of death and the victim’s identity were initially withheld. Investigators were trying to determine the man’s residence and reach next of kin.

The victim likely was killed elsewhere and dropped between Randall and Big Meadow roads Saturday night or Sunday morning, said Spokane County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.
