Awarded The world’s fastest man has received one of his Caribbean homeland’s highest honors. Usain Bolt received the Order of Jamaica award during Monday’s heritage celebrations in the capital, Kingston. At 23, Bolt is the youngest person to receive the honor. In recent weeks Jamaica has also renamed a highway after the Olympic and world 100 and 200-meter champion and record-holder.
Out Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford has been ruled out of No. 25 Oklahoma’s game this week at 24th-ranked Kansas, but Coach Bob Stoops says any decision beyond that is yet to come. Bradford re-injured his right shoulder on Oklahoma’s second possession during a 16-13 loss to No. 3 Texas on Saturday.
Practicing Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike was back at practice with a cast on his left forearm. Pike had the forearm on his non-passing arm examined by a specialist and was allowed to practice wearing a cast. Coach Brian Kelly plans to let him practice this week, and then decide whether he will play against Louisville (2-4) on Saturday.
Scheduled Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love has been scheduled for surgery on his broken left hand. Love will have the operation in New York today to fix a fracture in the fourth metacarpal bone in his shooting hand.
•American defender Oguchi Onyewu will have surgery Wednesday to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, an injury sustained during last week’s World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.
Moved U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has been moved out of intensive care as he recovers from serious injuries after a car accident. The U.S. Soccer Federation says Davies is now able to receive visitors. He will have surgery early next week to repair a broken left elbow and may require operations to repair facial fractures. Davies is expected to need six to 12 months to recover, essentially ruling him out for the World Cup, which begins in South Africa in June.
