Three things we’ll be talking about this week

1. People from all walks of life will be recognized at Wednesday’s YWCA Women of Achievement Luncheon. The guest speaker is Alison Levine, team captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition. Tickets are $125, and the proceeds support YWCA programs. The luncheon is at 11:30 at the Spokane Convention Center.

2. You may not want to think about snow yet, but for people who like playing in the white stuff, this weekend offers the annual ski swap put on by Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol. People can drop off equipment at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m.; shopping is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.

3. Saturday is Halloween, and the holiday will haunt the whole week. Parties of all kinds for people of all ages are planned around the region. Here’s one from the many: The Boys & Girls Club’s free “Trunk or Treat” event Friday, 5 to 7:30 p.m., 544 W. Providence. Volunteers will hand out candy from their car trunks free in a safe environment. For information or to donate, call (509) 489-0741.
