Area churches set fall schedules
Now that schools are back in session, Spokane Valley churches are also launching their fall worship schedules and Sunday school classes. Several are using the occasion to host gatherings to celebrate the beginning of the new season.
• Christ Lutheran Church will introduce its new Bible Learning Adventure Stations (BLAST) on Sunday. Registration and orientation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and parents can take a tour of the four stations. A combined worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch. The church is at 13009 E. Broadway.
• Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road, will resume its fall schedule of worship at 9 and 10:45 a.m. on Sundays. Sunday school classes begin this week.
• The regular fall schedule resumes Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye. There will be a traditional service at 8:30 a.m., Bible hour at 9:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m.
• Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road, will host Rally Day activities Sunday to kick off the Sunday school year. Activities for all ages are scheduled from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., including a walk/run around the church to raise money for Spokane Valley Partners. Teams and/or those wearing crazy hats are encouraged to participate in the walk.
The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for a barbecue, along with plates and silverware. Those with last names beginning with the letters A-M are asked to bring a salad, those with names beginning with N-Z are asked to bring a dessert.
• Millwood Presbyterian Church is returning to two worship services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday and also will host a Rally Day carnival at 10:30 a.m. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
• The schedule is full Sunday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth. Masses will begin at 8, 9 and 10 a.m. The adult forum will resume at 9 a.m. and Sunday school classes will begin at 10 a.m. There will be a barbecue potluck at 11 a.m. in celebration of Grandparents Day while the youth group has a car wash to raise money. The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for the barbecue. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share.
Anniversary celebration
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will observe its 50th anniversary with a special service and other activities on Sunday. A recommitment worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a neighborhood country fair from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will include food, games, music and contests for the best cake and best pie.

The Truth Project
The Valley Assembly of God will host a new weekly gathering beginning Wednesday focusing on The Truth Project, a DVD-based group Bible study produced by Focus on the Family. The sessions will be held every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 15618 E. Broadway. Call (509) 924-0466 for more information.
Concerts
• Otis Orchards Community Church will host a free concert featuring bluegrass, swing, jazz and gospel styles from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The featured performers will include The Basement Jazz Quartet, 5MOR, Craig Catlett and special guests Ernie and Judi Carlson of Tuxedo Junction. A free ice cream social will follow the performance. The church is at 23304 E. Wellesley Ave.
• New Life Church will host the African Children’s Choir in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 10920 E. Sprague Ave. The group of children is touring the country to raise money. Donations will be accepted.
