In brief: Candidates, issues will be focus

RIVERSIDE – The League of Women Voters of the Spokane Area will present general election candidate and issue forums on Tuesday and Oct. 6 at the Spokane Council Chambers, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Tuesday’s forum will center on Spokane Public Schools board positions, Spokane Municipal Court, Legislative District 9, Washington state ballot Initiative 1033 and Referendum 71.

The Oct. 6 forum will focus on Spokane City Council races, four city propositions, fire bond and community bill of rights and more.

Gifts of baby items will be accepted

RIVERSIDE – Community Health Education and Resources, a service of Inland Northwest Health Services, is collecting new and gently used baby items for its annual Community Baby Shower to be held Oct. 3 at the West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt St.

Hearings planned on future parks

SPOKANE – The city of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department will hold a series of community forums to gather input from Spokane residents on future parks and recreation services.

The forums are: Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.; Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Woodland Center in Finch Arboretum, 1299 S. F St., and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.; and Wednesday, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., at Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St.
