In brief: Wine fundraiser to benefit cancer walk

NORTH INDIAN TRAIL – WineStyles, 8801 N. Indian Trail Road, will host a fundraiser on Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m. to benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The wine-tasting event will include appetizers.

Proceeds will benefit breast cancer awareness and the Avon Walk, to be held this summer.

Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple and may be purchased in advance or at the door on Saturday.

Neighborhood garden group plans meetings

NORTHWEST – The Hemlock and Fairview Community Garden Association meeting will be Tuesday at the Transitional Living Center, 3128 N. Hemlock St., at 6 p.m.

The meeting will give existing and new gardeners the chance to sign up for a garden bed, review rules, and vote on an executive committee. The meeting is free and open to the public.

On May 1, the association will hold a community garden clean-up and bed allotment, beginning at 1 p.m., at the corner of Hemlock and Fairview Avenue.

Returning and new gardeners can select their desired garden beds, and gardeners will have the opportunity to clean up their own garden beds, assist other gardeners who may need help establishing their garden bed, clean garden beds that are not yet assigned to any gardener, and tidy up common areas of the community garden. New raised beds may also be constructed.

The event is free and open to the public.

Mardi Gras Saturday at Corbin center

EMERSON/GARFIELD – The Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland Ave., will have a Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 4.

The party will include Creole and vegetarian dishes, wine, appetizers, and a chocolate fountain, along with silent and live auctions. George Maupin from KHQ-TV will be the emcee for the evening.

Spokane Art Party will be Saturday

RIVERSIDE – The fourth-annual Great Spokane Art Party will be Saturday at the Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave., from 7 to 10 p.m.

Fifteen area artists will help participants try their hand at clay, watercolor, silk screen, papermaking, jewelry, collage, and more. The party will include wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Prints for Learning, a nonprofit organization that runs the Child Care Training Institute and the Community Building Children’s Center.

Tickets are $50 per person or $80 for two, and may be purchased at the Community Building Children’s Center, by calling Blue Prints for Learning at (509) 777-0822, or at the door.
