Table tennis location carefully chosen

This is in reply to the letter from Mary Yates regarding table tennis at the Spokane Valley Senior Center that was in the Valley Voice April 15.

The decision to relocate table tennis was not made arbitrarily; the board discussed the situation with the table tennis players on several occasions.

The senior center recognizes the value and enthusiasm for table tennis. Because of its popularity and increased participation in the last year, the senior center has been trying to find a location that can accommodate two tables, allowing for safety requirements, including flooring, lighting, and sufficient space. A location was also needed where seniors could play and would not interfere with or disturb classes, meetings, bridge tournaments, and other games.

Our senior pickleball and badminton players have been enjoying the Hepton Center, 1821 S. Barker Road. The Hepton Center meets all of the safety requirements. We spoke with the facility manager, who told us the ping pong would be accepted. The tables were moved there.

The Senior Center Association still supplies all of the equipment for all three groups. Anyone is welcome to visit or tour the beautiful building which the seniors have the use of five days a week, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including after hours for special events when scheduled.
