Cooler temperatures expected Sunday

Staff reports

Dry and warm weather will continue today as the Inland Northwest enjoys the best of August weather.

Temperatures today should reach the lower 80s with mostly sunny skies.

A low-pressure area moves into the region tonight and Sunday, bringing clouds and a 20 percent chance of showers on Sunday. Highs on Sunday may be in the 70s.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Missoula issued a red-flag warning from 1 to 11 p.m. today in parts of North Idaho and Montana. A red-flag warning is issued when strong gusty winds pass through an area experiencing low humidity and otherwise dry conditions, increasing the chances for wildland fires. Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater and Idaho counties are affected by the warning.

A return to warm and dry conditions is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, but a new low may arrive by Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
