CVSD bond ‘simply necessary’

The 2011 Central Valley School District construction bond is one that must pass.

It is going to be up to our citizens to ensure the future safety, development and forward progression of our kids. These are challenging times for all. Today we watch government make countless budget cuts at the federal, state and local levels all directly and or indirectly impacting our K-12 school system. I would like to remind all those reading that this is one governmental system that works.

The Central Valley School District consistently performs under challenging financial, structural and capacity issues. As a former student of South Pines Elementary, Evergreen Junior High and a Central Valley High School graduate I have experienced the excellence that this district expects and demands of its faculty and students.

Today as a parent of two children at Chester Elementary and one child at Horizon Middle School I again see the commitment to excellence. All this is done every day throughout the CV District despite the incredibly difficult, outdated and unsafe facility issues many of our schools are facing.

We are not asking for a blank check from the taxpayers to be written. There has been thoughtful, detailed and organized debate around what projects are absolutely necessary to ensure the welfare and education of our kids.

Modernization and expansion of five schools are an absolute must allowing for the best environment for children to learn along with the need of a new elementary school to be built as the city of Spokane Valley and city of Liberty Lake have grown immensely in the past 10 years. Lastly, we must ensure the safety of all our children by incorporating a parent notification system and some security cameras.

None of these request are frivolous and or over the top. They are simply necessary. As a parent, business professional, community builder and CV graduate, I ask everyone to support this bond. We do not want our kids or our school district to be left behind because we were complacent and/or not progressive in our thinking. Join me in voting “yes” for the 2011 CV construction bond!
