Tigers thump Saxons
The Lewis and Clark girls basketball team dominated the first half and the boards Friday.
The visiting Tigers (4-0, 4-0 league) raced to a 44-15 lead by halftime and were not deterred in a 79-42 win over the Ferris Saxons (0-4, 0-4) in Greater Spokane League action.
The win sets up an early showdown for first place this afternoon between LC and Gonzaga Prep at G-Prep. Tipoff is at 4:30.
LC outrebounded the Saxons 48-31.
Junior guard Devyn Galland scored a season-high 26 points to go with five rebounds. Nakia Arquette added 15 points, Abang Taka had 11 and Hailey Hendricksen had 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Haley Sieverding led Ferris with 13 points and Katara Belton-Sharp added nine for the Saxons.
Gonzaga Prep 49, North Central 47: The Bullpups (4-0, 4-0) built a 36-27 lead through three periods and then had to hold off the visiting Indians (3-2, 3-1) in the fourth quarter.
Tia Presley made her usual multiple contributions, finishing with a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Largent added 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.
Riley Holsinger led NC with a game-high 22 points.
Mead 54, Central Valley 48: The visiting Panthers (2-3, 1-3) broke through for their first league victory over the defending league champs at CV.
Taylor Ingebritsen led Mead with a game-high 21 points and Jade Redmon added 19. Brooke Gallaway, the Bears’ usual leading scorer, was held to seven and fouled out. Mariah Cunningham led CV (1-4, 1-3) with 14 and Katie Estey added 12.
Mead made 30 of 40 free-throw attempts.
University 69, Rogers 34: Although the Pirates (0-4, 0-4) show signs of improving, the visiting Titans (3-3, 2-2) outscored Rogers 47-16 in the middle quarters.
Cassie Shillam led four players in double figures for the Titans with 16 points. Jasmin Andrews had 12 for Rogers.
