Speed limit reduced at busy junction
BELLEVUE, Idaho – The Idaho Transportation Department has scrapped a plan to install a four-way traffic stop at a heavily traveled crossroads in central Idaho.
The department will instead lower the speed limit at the junction of U.S. Highway 20 and Idaho Highway 75 south of Bellevue, both popular routes for motorists.
The transportation agency plans to lower the speed limit on state Highway 75 from 75 mph to 45 mph for a half-mile stretch in both directions at the intersection.
Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling, who has previously stated opposition to the four-way traffic stop proposal, said officials arrived at a decision earlier this week.
