A Heart Like Yours Quilt Shoppe continues to grow as a haven for creativity and camaraderie.

“A lot of people like to come and hang out,” says company founder Lynn Jacobs. “And we like to have the atmosphere to make that happen.”

For more than a year now, the 2,200-square-foot shop tucked along Sprague Avenue near the Spokane Valley Licensing DMV Office has served as a place for quilters to buy supplies, hone their skills and share ideas. The store offers classes throughout the year, including opportunities for personalized, one-on-one interaction.

Like other craft-related retailers, Jacobs has noticed increased interest in creative hobbies that people can enjoy at home and as part of social groups. And the Spokane-area crafts community tends to be close-knit – the sewing machines Jacobs’ students use in classes, for example, are on loan from another Spokane Valley quilting store, The Quilting Bee.

Customers will find a vast array of fabric and colorful displays throughout the shop. More than 3,000 bolts of specialty quilt fabric organized by style and colors, as well as smaller project patterns and samples, can be found throughout the store. Many of the patterns for sale, along with some of those taught in classes, are created by Inland Northwest quilters and crafters.

Jacobs, who has been sewing since age 9, says it took her six years after coming up with a business name and getting a business license to actually open. And it appears she found the right fit.

“I love to work with fabric – I love quilting,” Jacobs says. “I do it as a lifestyle more than a hobby.”
