In brief: Firefighters to host stairclimb fundraiser
WANDERMERE – Firefighters of Spokane County Fire District 9 will hold a fundraiser at Albertsons at Wandermere on Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to benefit the “Scott Firefighter Stairclimb,” to be held on March 7 in Seattle.
Ten District 9 firefighters will participate in the event at Seattle’s largest skyscraper, the Columbia Center. All participants will wear full firefighting gear, including self-contained breathing apparatus, and race up the 69-flight course, including 1,311 steps, 19 steps per flight, at an elevation of 788 feet. The race will also be timed.
Donations from the fundraiser will support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dressbarn accepting professional clothing
SPOKANE COUNTY – From Feb. 25 through Feb. 28, Dressbarn women’s clothing stores will join nonprofit organizations, such as Dress for Success, in the eighth annual “Send One Suit Weekend,” to help underprivileged women looking to re-enter the workforce.
During the fundraising weekend, gently-used suits, pants, shirts, skirts, shoes and other professional items may be donated to any Dressbarn locations. Stores are located at 4724 N. Division St., in Spokane and 15533 E. Broadway in Spokane Valley.

Banks, credit unions collecting kids books
SPOKANE COUNTY – In March, area banks and credit unions will be holding a children’s book drive.
The event will benefit Page Ahead’s Book for Kids Program.
Participating banks and credit unions include: Banner Bank; Northland Credit Union, 9625 N. Newport Highway; Safeway Federal Credit Union; Spokane Media Federal Credit Union; Wells Fargo Bank, Financial, Home Mortgage and Insurance Services; and Washington Trust Bank.
