Hired The Arizona Cardinals announced the hiring of Donnie Henderson as their new defensive backs coach Monday. Henderson has 26 years of coaching experience, including a one-year stint at Idaho in 1989.

Resigned UCLA defensive backs coach Carnell Lake is resigning after one season, citing family reasons. The Bruins ranked second in the Pac-10 in pass defense.

Out Phoenix guard Steve Nash didn’t make the Phoenix Suns’ trip to Oklahoma City in order to rest his sore lower back and abdomen. Today’s game marks the first game this season the two-time league MVP will miss.

•Spurs guard Tony Parker has a mild strain of his left hip flexor and is listed as day-to-day. Team physicians made the diagnosis after an MRI on an injury that held Parker out of Sunday’s overtime loss at Detroit.

Retiring Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo says he will retire after the 2011 season. The 33-year-old striker extended his contract with Brazilian club Corinthians. Ronaldo was a three-time FIFA player of the year and has scored 62 goals in 97 international games.

Commencing Opening arguments begin today for a trial in the drive-by shooting death of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams. Defendant Willie Clark is accused of firing the fatal shots into Williams’ limousine on New Year’s Day 2007.
