In brief: Program gets kids fit for Bloomsday
SPOKANE COUNTY – Elementary schools in Eastern Washington and North Idaho are invited and encouraged to sign up for the Fit for Bloomsday … Fit for Life youth fitness program.
The program, now in its 24th year, was developed by Bloomsday volunteers in cooperation with physical education instructors, coaches and parents in the Spokane area. Fit for Bloomsday runs 8 to 10 weeks and prepares kids to run or walk Bloomsday while teaching them about fitness, nutrition and safety.

Teeth whitening event aids Guilds’
GARLAND – The Spokane Guilds’ School Foundation’s “Smiles” Teeth Whitening fundraiser will begin Feb. 1 and will run through March 31.
For $99, patients can get their teeth whitened professionally by one of more than 20 participating dentists.
All proceeds benefit the Spokane Guilds’ School Foundation.

Boater education will be Saturday
SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Marine Training Unit will hold a free boater education class on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Training Center, 10319 E. Appleway Blvd.
As of Jan. 1, all boat operators age 30 and younger must take the mandatory course to operate a boat or personal watercraft. In 2011, the age limit will rise to 35, and will increase each year in five-year increments to the age of 60. Persons born before 1955 are exempt from the mandatory education requirements.

Lincoln Center plans barn dance
DOWNTOWN – The Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St., will host the Free Rein Therapeutic Riding Barn Dance on Feb. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The evening includes silent and live auctions, a scrip casino with blackjack and roulette, a barbecue dinner and a Bluegrass band.
Tickets are $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight.

Concert, dinner on Valentine’s Day
POST FALLS – As part of its Valentine’s Day concert “A Tribute to Judy Garland,” the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., will feature dinner at Rosa’s Italian Market and Deli for the Feb. 14 event.
