Parent advances to finals

Washington State freshman Holly Parent advanced to the women’s high jump finals at the Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick on Friday.

Parent, of Victoria, British Columbia, cleared 5 feet, 5 1/4 inches and moved to Sunday’s finals with 12 other competitors.

Parent has reached the World Junior Championships qualifying standard with her personal-best 5-11 1/4 at the NCAA West Regional first round.

Soccer

The Portland Timbers (11-0) roughed up the Spokane Spiders 9-0 in Premier Development League play at Tigard (Ore.) High School.

The Spiders dropped to 1-9-2.
