Plummer will mark 100 years with bash
Events includes music, history, talent show and fun run
Plummer’s turning 100 this summer and the town’s celebrating for three days, not just with parties and food, but also with the “Plummer Idol” talent show.
The fun will begin July 16 with a kids’ carnival and block party at Plummer’s Community Center Park. The block party will be held outside the Benewah Medical Center, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Partygoers will have an opportunity to view displays highlighting the past 100 years on the reservation and the Benewah Tribe’s ties with the Plummer community.
The Golden Era Antique and Art Fest will begin at 3 p.m. July 16 and will run through 8 p.m. July 17. Also as part of the July 16 festivities, participants can bring a guitar, banjo, flute, fiddle, drum, harmonica or instrument of choice for an informal music circle jam. The July 17 antique and art fest activities include a classic car cruise and live music by Moore Country and Rampage.
Historical photos and memorabilia of Plummer will be on display during the three-day celebration at the Plummer Community Center. Historical photos from the reservation will also be on display at Golden Era Antiques.
On July 17, the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Wellness Center will host the 12th annual fun run and walk on the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. The race begins at 8 a.m. To receive a T-shirt, register by July 8. Breakfast will be served at the American Legion/Senior Center beginning at 7 a.m.
The celebration continues July 17 with a parade at 10:30 a.m. followed by vendors, games, karaoke and other exhibits from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants also can enjoy a farmers market and a display by local 4-H members.
The Plummer Library will have its grand opening during the celebration. People can take tours, enjoy refreshments and win door prizes from noon to 4 p.m. Books about Plummer’s history and a centennial cookbook will be available at the library.
The evening of July 17 will bring the Lakeside High School open house and talent show, where the winner will walk away with the title of “Plummer Idol” along with a cash prize. The celebration will close July 18 with a community potluck picnic at Community Center Park beginning at noon. The Plummer community action team is sponsoring the picnic and will provide beverages, hotdogs, plates and silverware. Picnickers are asked to bring their favorite potluck dish to share.
The picnic also will include a photographer taking period photos for a suggested $2 donation, and Heartbreak Pass will perform live from 1 to 3 p.m.
