Volunteers welcome to put those finishing touches on fair, parade

There are plenty of last-minute details that need to be taken care of before Saturday’s South Perry Fair and Parade can go off without a hitch.

Volunteers are needed to help pick up and transport tables and chairs on Friday at 5 p.m. Meet at the Perry Street Cafe. Chairs and tables need to go back on Sunday.

Friday morning at 10 a.m., volunteers are meeting in Grant Park to designate space for vendors and booths.

And Saturday morning there are barricades to be hauled and parade participants to be lined up – if you can help, stop by the Perry Street Cafe and talk to Geoff.

As of Monday evening, 17 jewelry, arts and crafts vendors had signed up for the fair, along with 14 nonprofit organizations and five political candidates.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and will close down Perry Street through the business district for about an hour.

Band schedule for the fair on Saturday:

10:30 a.m., Grant Elementary School Drummers and Dancers

11 a.m., Blisterz

1 p.m., The Voiceless Choir

2 p.m., Dave McRae and Friends

4 p.m., Hey is For Horses

6 p.m., La Cha Cha

Parade plans:

Participants line up in the parking lot at Hico between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The parade is free for children – showing up at the last minute is fine.

South Perry Farmers Market update:

The market takes place every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. Expect to find lots of leafy greens, some new potatoes, herbs, plants for your own garden, organic meet, bread and honey. Soap and lotions are also popular.

Summer movies starting soon:

The South Perry Summer Theater begins on July 24 with “Time Bandits,” followed by “Wayne’s World” on July 31. Movies are shown on the north side of the old Altamont Pharmacy Building and begin at dusk. Please bring your own chairs.
