Brazilian chef plans to present a beautiful Grille
“…each one says ‘Ah.’ “
This is what the folks from The Grille from Ipanema hope every one of their customers will say after they’ve been to the new restaurant on the second floor of the Parkside Tower at 601 Front Ave. The name of the place, which won’t be real until November, comes from the song “The Girl from Ipanema,” since the menu will be Brazilian and Ipanema is a beach near Rio de Janeiro. The “Ah” line is the end of the song.
With construction starting soon for tropical décor, the food will be that of an all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse with a salad bar and drinks, including Brazilian juices and sodas. The steaks are called churrasco (pronounced shoo-ras-koo), and different types of meat are brought by servers who slice portions from skewers onto your plate.
With views of Lake Coeur d’Alene, the restaurant will seat 115 inside and 75 on the outside plaza. Probable hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Originally from Curitiba, Brazil, co-owner Adriano de Souza came to Coeur d’Alene from Utah last summer as a chef at Bonsai Bistro. Realizing the area had no Brazilian restaurant, he pursued his dream with the help of Moacir Lopez Jr. of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He and Monte Miller of the Parkside Tower connected with their visions of a one-of-a-kind restaurant.

This week’s tidbits
• “Cabaret by the Lake,” a casual evening of music and song with performers of Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bakery by the Lake (lower level of Parkside Tower, 601 Front Ave.). Admission is free. Donations will support CdA Summer Theatre.
• Complaints continually come in about restaurants and eateries having such loud music that the customers can’t enjoy their company and food. Some places are chain eateries that are known for their loud sound and huge products. Sometimes, though, the music is by talented performers who simply have their volume too loud. It’s disappointing because you may really like the place. Try to sit away from the sound system. Or simply complain to the owners. Some places have to decide if they’re restaurants or nightclubs.
• Last week we wrote about Hospice of North Idaho raising $500,000 for its new facility. Oops. They’re actually within $500,000 of their $3 million goal. They’re still accepting donations. Call (208) 640-0767 or go to www.honi.org.
• Downtown Coeur d’Alene needs a variety/drug-type store.
