In brief: Fair’s horse show invites entries

COEUR D’ALENE – Pre-entries are being accepted for the 2010 Kootenai County North Idaho Fair Open Horse Show, to be held Aug. 6 through Aug. 8.

The show will offer a variety of classes for horse enthusiasts. All breeds are invited to participate, including registered and unregistered, mules and donkeys.

Pre-entries are due to the fair office by 5 p.m. on Friday.

The North Idaho Fair and Rodeo, themed “It’s A Perfect 10!,” will be Aug. 25 through Aug. 29 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds. Advance tickets are now on sale for $6 for adults, $3 for kids. A five-day parking pass is $8.

POST FALLS – Idaho Fish and Game will host a “WILD about Early Learners” workshop Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 for nature enthusiasts who want to share their love of the outdoors with children. The classes will be at Cabela’s, 101 N. Cabela Way, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will receive an Idaho WILD about Early Learners Guide, resource lists, home connections and more. Attendees also will receive activity-filled aquatics guides.

Cost for the course is $35 per person, which includes all guides, supplemental materials and a potato bar lunch. College credit is available for an additional $60. Idaho STARS certification also is available.

POST FALLS – The Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St., will hold a series of concerts in the courtyard on Wednesday evenings in August. All concerts will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jive Five will play Aug. 4. The band will treat the audience to swing music from the 1920s to the 1950s.

On Aug. 11, Meet Revolver will perform Beatles favorites from 1963 to 1966. Members of the band dress in Beatles garb and speak with British accents.

On Aug. 18, Ruth and Friends plays big-band music of the golden era and contemporary music of today.

The concerts are free. People are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
