Police arrest man after car chase
A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday after Spokane Valley police say he tried fleeing them in a stolen Honda.
Daniel Allen Wessels, of 19900 E. Maxwell Ave. in Greenacres, led Officer Chan Erdman on a high-speed chase, then jumped out of the moving Honda in a parking lot between Argonne and Mullan roads. Erdman chased him down and handcuffed him “with little resistance,” police said.
The incident began when a resident in the 1100 block of South Herald Road reported to Crime Check that a man had pulled up in a car and transferred items to another car, then drove away.
The second car’s license plates came back to a stolen Honda, and Erdman spotted the car on Dishman-Mica Road about 11:15 a.m.
In the Honda, police found property believed to have been stolen from other cars. Police say the first car Wessels drove to South Herald was stolen. Another stolen car was nearby; police still are investigating its origins.
Wessels was booked into jail on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, attempting to elude a police vehicle and a warrant for escape from community custody. He remained in jail Tuesday night.
