In brief: Adams Elementary marking 50 years
SPOKANE VALLEY – Adams Elementary School, 14707 E. Eighth Ave., will host its 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The gala will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance at Adams’ flagpole. Central Valley High School’s band will march down Eighth Avenue, playing the national anthem. Adams first principal, Bob Iller, and its current principal, Jeff DuFresne, will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony, “opening” the school for the celebration.
The evening also includes kindergartners through fifth-graders singing to and dancing for retired teachers and principals. Cake and ice cream will be served.
All current and former students, along with staff members and the community, are invited to attend the events.
Community-wide yard sale planned
LIBERTY LAKE – The residents of Liberty Lake will have a community-wide yard sale next Saturday.
Residents are invited to set up individual yard sales, giving neighbors and the public an opportunity to pick up items for sale and meet the people living around them.

Church, food bank offering free food
MILLWOOD – Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., and Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank will be handing out food in the church parking lot Thursday, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Free produce and perishable products for families in need of food assistance will be available and no appointment is necessary. Participants must be present to receive their food. Boxes will be needed to carry food.

Students to read from short stories book
Students in Julie Seipp’s AP European History Class at East Valley High School will read from their book, “Parisian Short Stories,” at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main St., Spokane, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The students, all sophomores, have written a collection of short stories that involve French history or culture told from a teenager’s point of view.
The class will be taking the book to the Cluny Museum in Paris this November.
The books are $9 each.
