In brief: Really big barbecue to benefit CVHS

SPOKANE VALLEY – Yoke’s Fresh Market in Spokane Valley at Sprague Avenue and Progress Road will have a really, really big barbecue on Saturday when the Johnsonville Sausage Big Taste Grill visits the grocery store in a fundraiser for Central Valley High School.

The grill is housed in a semi-truck and weighs 53,000 pounds and is 65 feet long, 20 feet high, and 6 feet wide. Johnsonville has claimed it to be the world’s largest touring grill.

Visitors can enjoy Johnsonville brats, hot off of the grill; from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and proceeds will benefit CVHS, raising funds for its senior lock-in.

Briggs’ run will benefit

SPOKANE VALLEY – Ken Briggs, the executive director of Spokane Valley Partners, will participate in a 50-mile trail race Sunday at 7 a.m. at Farrugut State Park in Idaho.

Briggs hopes to complete the race in 12 hours and raise awareness and funds for the Spokane Valley Partners.

If you would like to make a monetary pledge for every mile Briggs completes, you can donate at www.svpart.org and click on “Ken’s Run.” You can also mail checks to Spokane Valley Partners, P.O. Box 141360, Spokane Valley, WA 99214-1360.

Briggs’ goal is to raise $5,000. So far, almost $2,000 has been either pledged or donated.

‘Annie’ fundraiser

for senior centers

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Civic Theatre will perform “Annie Get Your Gun!” on Wednesday at 1020 N. Howard St., at 7:30 p.m. The show is a fundraiser for Senior Centers in Spokane.

Tickets are $35 per person and include appetizers and beverages.

Tickets may be purchased at all local Senior Centers.

BOBfest Saturday at Clocktower Meadow

SPOKANE – The Chase Youth Commission will hold BOBfest – Battle of the Bands on Saturday at the Clocktower Meadow in Riverfront Park, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The annual event includes 12 local bands, sharing their musical talent and battling it out for a complete CD package from College Road Recording, paid performances at Riverfront Park’s Fourth of July celebration, Pig Out in the Park, and First Night, along with gift certificates from Hoffman Music.

Pride parade downtown Saturday

RIVERSIDE – OutSpokane will have the 19th annual “Pride Parade and Rainbow Festival” on Saturday, beginning at noon, on the streets of downtown Spokane and in the Gondola Meadows in Riverfront Park.
