In brief: Valleyfest fundraiser planned for Saturday

SPOKANE VALLEY – Supporters of Valleyfest have a chance this week to raise some money for the popular annual event while having a little fun and vying for cool prizes.

The second annual “The Sky is the Limit” dinner and auction will be from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. The evening will include silent and live auctions, a dessert auction, live entertainment and dinner by Red Rock Catering.

Some of the items up for bid include a vacation home in Mexico for one week, two Horizon Airline tickets to anywhere in the U.S., sporting event tickets and adventure trips.

Another treat is an hour in a plane flown by former Spokane Valley City Council member Dick Denenny. One lucky person will win a raffle prize for a $250, three-minute shopping spree at Yokes.

Tickets for the event are $35 and only available in advance. Donors can sponsor a table for eight for $350. Call the Valleyfest office at (509) 922-3299 by Thursday to purchase tickets.

Free food will

be distributed

MILLWOOD – Free food will be distributed to Valley residents courtesy of Second Harvest and the Spokane Valley Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The distribution will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave. All who need food are welcome and no documentation is necessary. It does not count as a monthly food bank visit. Families are encouraged to bring their own boxes for the food and fresh produce.

Make-A-Wish benefit scheduled Friday

WEST VALLEY – Spokane County law enforcement members will hit the football field to play the Spokane Wolfpack in a game to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday at West Valley High School, 8301 E. Broadway Ave.

During halftime there will be punt, pass and kick competitions as well as raffles and giveaways. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children age 6 to 17. Children 5 and younger are free.
