In brief: Open house today for ‘BIG’ NIC raffle

COEUR D’ALENE – The public is invited to the last open house to view the $265,000 grand-prize home in the North Idaho College Foundation’s Really BIG Raffle today, from noon to 4 p.m. The home is at 2880 Marceille Drive in Coeur d’Alene.

The 17th annual fundraiser for NIC supports student and program needs at NIC.

Other prizes include a car valued at $20,000; a $10,000 boat; a $3,500 vacation package; and a $2,000 shopping spree.

Only 5,000 tickets will be sold for the drawing on July 14. Tickets are $100 each and will be sold at the open house.

Meeting will discuss burglaries

BLANCHARD – The Blanchard Crime Stoppers meeting will be held on Tuesday at the Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Road, at 7 p.m.

The group will discuss recent burglaries in the area and will also coordinate neighborhood watch groups.

Summer Theatre offers student deal

COEUR D’ALENE – The Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, 1000 W. Garden Ave., will offer “student rush” tickets during the months of June through August to college, high school and middle school students for $15 each.

Tickets will be sold 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each performance and students will need to visit the theater box office two hours before showtime to verify availability and to sign up.

Students must present valid student identification at the time of purchase. There is a limit of one ticket purchase per valid student ID.

College hosts kids’ wrestling camps

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College wrestling staff will hold summer wrestling camps for kids of all ages during June and July in NIC’s Christianson Gym.

Camps will be offered for high school students from Saturday through June 23 and June 26 through June 30. Cost for the camps is $330 and will include technique instruction in the morning and two duels in the afternoon and evening. Teams will consist of approximately 15 weight classes and a team champion will be determined following pool competition.

Kindergarten through eighth-grade camp and a girls wrestling camp will be offered July 5 through July 8. Cost is $275.

Library to honor Hendersons

POST FALLS – Frank and Lillian Henderson, longtime supporters of the Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St. in Post Falls, will be honored in a dedication ceremony on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The children’s room in the library will be renamed the Henderson Children’s Library to acknowledge their contributions to the library and the Post Falls community.

Lillian’s Library for Little Ones, a fund established by the Henderson family in memory of Lillian, supports the work of the Post Falls Library to promote early literacy through the love of reading and books. The fund has provided over 1,500 picture books to children through visits to child care centers, developmental preschools, Head Start programs, before- and after-school programs and elementary schools.

Frank Henderson served as mayor of Post Falls during the opening of the remodeled library in 1980 and was on the building committee to build the library its current building.
