Idaho opens regional play
Kayla Mortellaro shot a 3-over-par 74 Thursday to move into a tie for 26th place and lead Idaho on the first day of the NCAA West Regional tournament at Stanford (Calif.) University Golf Course.
The Vandals opened the tournament with a first-round score of 312.
Idaho is 21 strokes back of Arizona and Virginia, which are tied atop the leaderboard with scores of 291.
San Jose State’s Madeleine Ziegert took the lead with a 4-under 67.
Volleyball
Chenoa Rossi-Childress signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Eastern Washington in the 2010 season. Last year, Rossi-Childress, a middle blocker, played at Feather River College in Quincy, Calif.
