Hitmen roll to victory

BRANDON, Manitoba – The Calgary Hitmen exploded for five first-period goals – two coming off the stick of Kris Foucault – and breezed to a 5-1 victory over the tournament host Brandon Wheat Kings in Memorial Cup play Wednesday night.

Jimmy Bubnick added a goal and three assists for Calgary (2-1) and leads Memorial Cup scoring with seven points.

Jay Fehr scored the lone goal for Brandon (1-2). It came at the 3:44 mark of the first period – 29 seconds after Foucault’s first tally – and knotted the score at 1-1.

Foucault gave the Hitmen the lead for good at the 6:36 mark. Cody Beach and Tyler Shattock tacked on goals.

Brandon and Calgary play again Friday for a spot in Sunday’s final against Windsor.
