SCRAPS fee waiver ends today
SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service, 2521 N. Flora Road, has received more than 100 cats and kittens in the past week and plans to have as many cats as possible to be adopted during Memorial Day weekend.
An adoption-fee waiver promotion for cats and kittens began six months ago and ends today. Interested participants pay only the $15 licensing fee during the promotion.
Every new pet comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Utility dedicates well to James Bourekis
SPOKANE VALLEY – Modern Electric Water Co. recently held a dedication ceremony to honor past board president James Bourekis, who served as a director since 1985 and as president from 2001 until his death in October 2009.
At the ceremony, Modern Electric dedicated well No. 11, located at its office complex at 904 N. Pines Road, for Bourekis’ years of service to the company and community. The new well house sign is on Broadway, just east of the Pines Road intersection.
Photo scavenger hunt will be Friday
RIVERSIDE – The first Downtown Spokane Photo Scavenger Hunt will be Friday to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Groups of three to four people will meet at Heroes and Legends/DeLeon Foods, 825 W. Riverside Ave., between 6 and 6:30 p.m., to form a photo hunt team. Teams can pick up their shirts, rules for the hunt, and a set of clues. The hunt begins at 6:45 p.m. and teams will have two hours to complete all of the clues on the checklist.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three teams. Cost is $25 per person. Space is limited to the first 25 teams registered. Team members must be 21 and older.
All funds raised will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. in honor of Piper’s Pals. Piper, a 6-year old girl from Spokane, suffers from the disease. To register and for more information, call Mary O’Hara at (509) 328-5139.
