UW 10th, WSU 13th in rowing

Washington finished 10th and Washington State finished 13th as the NCAA women’s rowing championships concluded Sunday on Lake Natoma outside Sacramento, Calif.

The Huskies’ varsity four finished sixth in Sunday’s Grand Final. The varsity eight finished fifth in the Petite Final, good for 11th place overall, and the second varsity eight finished fourth in the Petite Final, good for 10th place overall. Washington earned 43 points, tied for 10th.

The Cougars’ second varsity eight finished second in the Petite Final, good for eighth overall. The varsity eight finished second in the Third Final, 14th overall, and the varsity four finished third in the Third Final, 15th overall. WSU earned 29 points, 13th overall.

Virginia won with 87 points.

•Western Washington won its sixth straight title at the NCAA Division II women’s rowing championships on Lake Natoma.

The Vikings finished second in the varsity eight Grand Final to Mercyhurst by four seats and dominated the varsity four, beating Florida Tech by nearly 20 seconds.

Baseball

USC used a seven-run eighth inning for an 11-5 Pac-10 victory over Washington in Los Angeles in the season finale for both teams.

The Huskies finished the year 28-28 overall, 11-16 Pac-10. The Trojans finished 28-32, 7-20 Pac-10.

Soccer

The Spokane Spiders lost 4-1 to the Tacoma Tide in Tacoma, falling to 0-5.

•The Spokane Black Widows lost 3-0 to the California Storm at Joe Albi Stadium in their season opener.
