In brief: Tax panel seeks three new members

SPOKANE VALLEY – Three people are needed to serve on the city of Spokane Valley’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. The group makes recommendations to the City Council on how to spend lodging tax money collected in the city. The money must be spent on items that will boost tourism.

One opening is for a person involved in activities that would qualify for lodging tax funding. The other two positions are for people representing businesses required to collect the tax. Terms will begin Jan. 1 and can be for one or two years. Committee members do not receive compensation. Applications are due by Nov. 29.

Clark’s free service nets gifts for needy

VERADALE – Clark’s Tire and Automotive, 16010 E. Sprague Ave., raised almost $6,000 and 1,000 pounds of nonperishable food for Valley Meals on Wheels.

The company offered free oil changes and wiper blades for the donations.

“Everyone was so generous and happy to make a donation,” said owner Chris Clark. “My staff and I would like to personally thank all who supported and participated in the event.”

The fundraiser was held in conjunction with the company’s first birthday celebration Oct. 27 and 28.

City planning group seeks members

SPOKANE VALLEY – There are two openings on the city of Spokane Valley’s Planning Commission. The commission is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council on zoning, land use, shoreline management and other issues.

Volunteers must live inside the Spokane Valley city limits and are not paid. The three-year terms will begin Jan. 1. Applications are due by Nov. 29. The mayor will select two people to fill the positions and his decision must be confirmed by the City Council.
