CV leadership students to help battle bullying
The Central Valley High School Leadership students recently were delegates to the Washington State Student Council conference in Bothell, Wash.
The students participated in a Safe School Survey and learned about where students feel unsafe and will help create programs to combat bullying, harassment and other issues in their schools.
The students also took part in a 3-mile walk for breast cancer, raising $130 as a delegation and $8,000 as a conference.
Each student from CV also raised the money to attend the conference, about $165 a student.

West Valley autumn play
The drama department at West Valley High School, 8301 E. Buckeye Ave., will present the drama, “Hedda Gabler,” Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at 7 p.m.
The cost to attend the play is free.

School auction
St. John Vianney Catholic School will present its 24th annual school dinner and auction Friday at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St.
The silent auction tables will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., followed by the live auction.
Tickets are $45 each or $290 for a table of eight.

Turkey Trot
The Panther Tracks Running Club will present a Turkey Trot and Pancake Breakfast Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. at Mountain View Middle School, 6011 N. Chase Road in East Farms.
The Turkey Trot can either be 1 mile or 3, depending on what you want to do, and the winner of the 3-mile race will receive a frozen turkey.
There will be prize drawings, ribbons and fun.
The cost to run the race is $5 each or $25 per family.
The pancake breakfast will benefit the school’s parent group and will be served after the race, about 9:30 a.m.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
Jenna Lee, a senior at Freeman High School, has been selected to perform at the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall.
Lee is an alto with the choir at Freeman, a member of the National Honor Society, the Future Business Leaders of America, co-editor of the school yearbook and a two-sport all-conference and academic athlete. She hopes to attend Westminster College next year to earn her degree in English with a minor in teaching.
Her performance in New York City will be Feb. 19.
Anti-bullying campaign
The students at East Valley Middle School recently held a kick-off assembly to combat bullying and harassment.
Part of the school’s Partners Advancing Character Education program, the students learned about the different types of bullying and how to stop it, watched a skit and announced a poster-making contest.
The students will wear black on Tuesday to “Give Bullying the Black Eye.” On Nov. 23, the students will be allowed to bring their iPods to lunch to “Tune out the Turkey Talk.” And on Nov. 30, the students will wear slippers to school to “Slip into December with a caring attitude.”
