Big party Tuesday at the Garland
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Sept. 7, for a 3-in-1 community event:
* A free showing of “Gulf Coast Blues: Oil in Our Veins,” a film created by Spokane filmmaker Marc Gauthier, who traveled to Grand Isle, La., just in time to see oil begin to wash ashore. The hour-long film shows the different, sometimes conflicting, responses from individuals to local officials to the federal government, to BP, and the effect on everything from wildlife to longtime ways of life.
The film will take place at 7 p.m. at the Garland Theater, and Gauthier will be available for questions. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
* This is the first night of the Sustainable September Film Festival. Films will be shown each Tuesday through the month at the Garland, and range from a closer look at the lives of beavers to the danger of continued coal mining.
* It’s also a special launch party/sneak-peek night for the fall issue of Down to Earth NW’s fall magazine, which publishes Saturday, Sept. 11, in The Spokesman-Review. The semi-annual publication shares what’s in store at SpokeFest, shows different Green trends in religion and baby products, and gives a closer look at interesting individuals and businesses.
Anyone is invited to attend the event, learn about Sustainable September, Down to Earth and the work Marc Gauthier is doing.
