Top 25 roundup: James Madison stuns No. 13 Hokies
Drew Dudzik ran for two touchdowns, threw for another score Saturday and James Madison stunned No. 13 Virginia Tech 21-16 in Blacksburg, Va., the Hokies’ second loss in six days.
Dudzik scored on second-half runs of 7 and 12 yards as the Dukes (2-0) became only the second team from the Football Championship Subdivision to beat the Hokies. Richmond did it in 1985.
The Hokies (0-2) began the season with national championship aspirations, but the offense that was supposed to be their strength did less against the Dukes than against No. 3 Boise State on Monday. They lost that game 33-30 on a touchdown with 1:09 left.
(1) Alabama 24, Penn State 3: Trent Richardson ran for 144 yards and a TD in place of injured Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, leading the Crimson Tide (2-0) to a win over the Nittany Lions (1-1) in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
It was the first time Penn State was held without a TD since a 13-3 loss at Wisconsin in 2006.
(2) Ohio State 36, (12) Miami 24: Terrelle Pryor ran for 113 yards and a TD, passed for a score and the Buckeyes (2-0) intercepted Jacory Harris four times in a win over the Hurricanes (1-1) in Columbus, Ohio.
The rematch of the 2002 national championship game was no work of art, with numerous sloppy plays and bad tackling. But it kept the Buckeyes perfect and prevented the Hurricanes from making a case they belonged back among the elite.
(4) TCU 62, Tennessee Tech 7: Matthew Tucker ran for two touchdowns, Andy Dalton threw for a score while setting another TCU record and the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs (2-0) stretched their home winning streak to 15 games with a victory over the Golden Eagles (0-2) in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dalton tied Max Knake’s school record of 622 career completions with his second against the Golden Eagles, a 24-yard pass to Josh Boyce less than 5 minutes into the game to put TCU ahead to stay.
(5) Texas 34, Wyoming 7: Garrett Gilbert passed for 222 yards and a touchdown and the Longhorns (2-0) shook off another slow start to beat the Cowboys (1-1) in Austin, Texas.
Gilbert was 22 of 35 with a 45-yard TD to freshman receiver Mike Davis in the second quarter. Fozzy Whittaker had a 39-yard TD run for Texas.
(8) Florida 38, South Florida 14: Jeff Demps ran for a career-high 139 yards and a TD, Justin Trattou returned an interception for a score and the Gators (2-0) defeated the Bulls (1-1) in Gainesville, Fla.
Florida overcame a sluggish start for the second straight week, took advantage of five turnovers and extended its home win streak to 13 games.
(9) Iowa 35, Iowa State 7: Adam Robinson rushed for a career-high 156 yards and a TD on 14 carries and the Hawkeyes (2-0) rolled over the Cyclones (1-1) in Iowa City, Iowa.
Ricky Stanzi threw two TD passes and ran for another score for the Hawkeyes, who scored TDs on four of their first five drives and beat Iowa State for the third straight time.
(10) Oklahoma 47, (17) Florida State 17: Landry Jones outplayed Christian Ponder by throwing for 380 yards and four touchdowns, and the Sooners (2-0) moved past a shaky season opener with an easy victory over the Seminoles (1-1) in Norman, Okla.
A rematch of the 2001 Orange Bowl that brought home the Sooners’ most recent national championship quickly turned into a blowout as Oklahoma scored touchdowns on its first four possessions.
(11) Wisconsin 27, San Jose State 14: John Clay ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and the Badgers (2-0) beat the Spartans (0-2) in Madison, Wis.
It was Clay’s eighth straight 100-yard rushing game as the Badgers won their 15th straight home opener and improved to 13-0 in nonconference regular-season games under coach Bret Bielema.
(14) Arkansas 31, Louisiana Monroe 7: Ryan Mallett completed 9 of 11 passes in the third quarter, leading to a touchdown and a field goal, and the Razorbacks (2-0) put away the Warhawks (0-1) after a sluggish first half in Little Rock, Ark.
Arkansas struggled to move the ball and led only 7-0 at halftime.
Kansas 28, (15) Georgia Tech 25: Jordan Webb threw three touchdown passes and the Jayhawks (1-1) rebounded from last week’s humiliating loss to North Dakota State with an upset win over the Yellow Jackets (1-1) in Lawrence, Kan.

(19) LSU 27, Vanderbilt 3: Stevan Ridley scored a 65-yard run and ran for 144 of his 159 yards in the second half, and the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 SEC) never trailed in defeating the Commodores (0-2, 0-1) in Nashville, Tenn.

(20) Utah 38, UNLV 10: Terrance Cain passed for two touchdowns in his first start in almost a year and Shaky Smithson returned a punt 77 yards for a score as the Utes (2-0, 1-0 Mountain West) beat the Rebels (0-2, 0-1) in Salt Lake City.
Eddie Wide ran for two touchdowns and the Utes won their 19th straight at home and their final Mountain West Conference opener before bolting for the Pac-10 next season.
(24) South Carolina 17, (22) Georgia 6: Marcus Lattimore rushed for 182 yards and two first-half touchdowns and the Gamecocks (2-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) held off the Bulldogs (1-1, 0-1) in Columbia, S.C.
Georgia was outgained by more than 100 yards and held without a touchdown for the first time in three years since its last loss to South Carolina, 16-12 in 2007.
