In brief: Olson Homestead project gets OK

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane County Hearing Examiner Michael Dempsey has approved a 10-unit rural cluster development south of Spokane Valley.

The Olson Homestead project at 7930 S. Vicari Road, near the intersection of state Route 27, is to be on 107.8 acres owned by the Olson Living Trust.

The plat Dempsey approved earlier this month (Sept. 1) requires 86.6 acres to remain undeveloped. Large livestock may be kept on the open land.

Community food bank sets hours

FAIRFIELD – The North Palouse Community Food Bank has announced its hours of operation for September and October. The food bank will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23. It also will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 14.

The food bank is supported entirely by community donations and serves Fairfield, Rockford, Latah and Waverly. It is located behind the Fairfield Fire Station on North Railroad Street.

Artist Showcase auction today

SPOKANE VALLEY – The fourth annual Artist Showcase, presented by the Spokane Valley Arts Council, is scheduled today from 4 to 9:30 p.m. at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place.

There will be 18 professional artists from five states and Canada. Several will demonstrate their skills from 4 to 6 p.m. during a quick draw demonstration.

An auction begins at 6:15 p.m. The evening includes food, wine and live music. All proceeds go to benefit the participating artists and projects of the arts council. Cost is $75. For information, call (509) 747-0812.

LIBERTY LAKE – The Liberty Lake Library, 23123 E. Mission Ave., will feature “Passionate about Pastels,” works of local professional pastel artists during this month.
