Sign removal violates neighbors’ rights
As you know, East Valley School District is in the middle of a bond campaign. I have noticed a changing of the signs along the streets I drive around my home, namely Evergreen Road and Wellesley Avenue in the Spokane Valley.
The sides of the streets and around the four-way stop have been decorated with both the East Valley “vote yes” signs and the “no no no” signs. Recently, all of the East Valley vote yes signs have disappeared while the no signs remain along this route. I feel fairly sure that the owners of the vote yes signs are not removing their own signs, and I suspect foul play. I also have heard this is happening elsewhere in our district.
As a citizen of our country I have always believed in the right to vote. I take my responsibility to vote seriously. I carefully review opinions and information from both sides and do my best to make the choice I believe in. Whoever is choosing to remove yes signs is violating my rights as a United States citizen. I have a right to see both signs, a right to know both sides of the voting issue.
Someone is disrespecting the citizens of our community. It feels like they are trying to bully their way into making voters choose their side. They don’t seem to respect us enough to allow us to make an informed decision and are being oppressive. I can’t emphasize enough how wrong I feel this action is. I also feel they are disrespecting the citizens who made the choice (and democratic right) to donate funds to purchase these signs.
Not only is this breaking the law, acting childish and ignorant, this is a violation of our rights as citizens to make an informed voting choice. It is a total disrespect to the people of this community. All the people of the community – those who vote yes and those who vote no.
I have not decided which way to vote on the East Valley bond. I am saddened that it looks as if I will not have accurate facts and information to review from the no side. It is hard to trust a group when there appears to be foul play somewhere in their midst. Please note that I believe in what I have stated even if it were the no signs that were disappearing. I am not associated with the yes or no committees, nor have I done any work for either side. I am a concerned citizen.
