Lonnie Shelton’s nephew signs with Cougars

WSU announced 6-foot-9, 220-pound power forward D.J. Shelton, a redshirt sophomore-to-be from Citrus College in Southern California, has signed a national letter of intent.

“D.J. Shelton will be a nice addition to our front court,” WSU coach Ken Bone said. “With the departure of DeAngelo Casto, we really wanted to add some height and athleticism, and D.J. gives us both of those ingredients. It’s also good to know that he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.”

Shelton, from Bakersfield, Calif., began his college career at Cal State Fullerton, where he redshirted before transferring to Citrus last season.

Shelton averaged 12 points and 6.7 rebounds for Citrus. He led the team in rebounding, blocked shots (1.6 a game) and field goal percentage (65.5) and was second in scoring.

Shelton is the nephew of former Oregon State and NBA star Lonnie Shelton.
