Landers off target

Once again Rich Landers spews forth from his soapbox blog his opinion regarding an antler point restriction for a portion of Stevens County. It would be laughable except his “opinion” is read by many, whereas the “facts” in rebuttal are read by few.

With that said, the recent decision by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission to implement a four-point APR in Units 117 and 121 is welcomed and, I hope, not too late. Time and again over the last 10-plus years this proposal has failed for one reason or another, during which time the age of our whitetails has decreased, their numbers have decreased, the buck-to-doe ratio barely reaches department recommendations (which is too low for herd health), and we now have the lowest fawn-to-doe ratios on record.

Space does not allow me to cover each point Landers brings up. Suffice it for me to say that seven out of 10 of the interested stakeholders, after three long meetings, voted in favor of the proposal.

There are drawbacks and potential problems, for sure, but to continue as before is not an option.

Learn the facts, Rich. Your irresponsible tirade is an embarrassment to serious sportsmen and to The Spokesman-Review.
