In brief: Local author to hold booksigning

SPOKANE VALLEY – Rhonda Knutson, a local resident and author, will be at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, on Saturday, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., for a signing of her first book “Escape From Hell, A Woman’s Story.”

WSDOT to hold I-90 open house

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Washington State Department of Transportation will host an open house today to present different potential designs for the section of Interstate 90 between Barker Road and Harvard Road. WSDOT is considering adding lanes and/or creating more efficient on- and off-ramp locations along that stretch of freeway in the future as funding becomes available.

The open house will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 E. Broadway Ave. There will be no formal presentation, so people can come and go during that time. Engineers will be on hand to answer questions and take comments on the various proposals.

Shrine Circus coming to mall

SPOKANE VALLEY – The El Katif Shrine Circus will be at the Spokane Valley Mall today through Sunday and will include the Liberty horses, the Wheel of Thrills, clowns and acrobats.

Circus-lovers can see the show today at 7:30 p.m.; Friday at 3 and at 7:30; Saturday at 3 and at 7:30; and on Sunday at 1 and 5 p.m.

General admission tickets are $10 per person, and reserved seats are $15. A limited number of VIP seats are available for $20 per person. Discounts are available for advance purchase by groups of 10 or more.

Tickets may be purchased at spokaneshrinecircus.com, at the box office on the day of show, or in advance at participating Albertsons supermarkets or the Spokane Valley Mall circus kiosk. Tickets may also be purchased in advance by calling the Shrine Circus office at (877) 469-9411.

Theater to mark Crosby’s birthday

RIVERSIDE – Advocates for the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave., will celebrate the late entertainer’s 108th birthday with a party Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.

The community is invited to event to enjoy cake and punch and short Crosby film clips shown in the theater at 6:30 p.m. At 7, attendees will have the opportunity to see “The Country Girl,” for which Bing Crosby was nominated for an Academy Award and co-star Grace Kelly won an Oscar.

Pony rides offered through Labor Day

RIVERSIDE – Riverfront Park is now offering live pony rides each Saturday and Sunday, through Labor Day.

Cost is $6 per child and there is a $1 discount for season pass members and day pass holders. Children 80 pounds and under may ride the ponies.

Senior league’s season opening

POST FALLS – The Links Men’s Senior Golf League will begin the summer season on Tuesday at the Links Golf Course, 10623 N. Chase Road. The league is for men 55 and older and includes discounted greens fees.
