No resolution to neighbor burning trash

We live in Millwood. There is a neighbor with a shop who has an inside wood burning stove in it. The neighbor does not have garbage service. The neighbor is burning his trash regularly after the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, SRCAA is closed.

The smoke that pours out of his chimney is a brown and blue thick fog that burns way beyond the 20-minute limit to burn clean. The thick smog lands in peoples’ yards and comes in their houses when the windows are open.

We tried the SRCAA, and spoke with a representative several times. She said her boss won’t give her the time to work after hours and they have to see the violation themselves to act. She did pay a visit to the neighbor and he let her see his stove and said he burns firewood. She never saw any cords of firewood.

We also tried the city of Millwood which just made the neighbor bring the stove up to building code and said it was an SRCAA problem.

So folks, stop paying for garbage service and just burn it in an inside trash burner after business hours. There’s no one going to stop you.
