Bloomsday volunteer T-shirts designed by pair of siblings

Sisters Brooke and Savannah Jordan-Brown, students in the Central Valley School District, won a contest from the Bloomsday Association to design the T-shirts its volunteers will wear during the race Sunday.

The girls’ depiction of flowers running also won $500 cash.

Brooke, 14, attends Horizon Middle School and Savannah, 10, goes to University Elementary School.

More kudos

Kendra Lacefield of University High School was selected as a runner up in the Professional Photographers of Washington high school scholarship competition.

• Fourth grade math teams in the Central Valley School District recently took first and second place out of more than 30 schools in their division at the annual “Math is Cool” competition.

The Liberty Lake Elementary School Team scored 152 points for first place. Five of the Liberty Lake students finished in the top 10 in the individual contest— Dylan McLaughlin took first place; Siqi He, second place; Casey Constance, fifth place; Calvin Whybrew, sixth place; and Gage Engel eighth place.

Sunrise Elementary School came in second place with 151 points.

More high individual scores in the Central Valley district include Caleb Gooch of Summit School, third place; Blake Tellinghusen, Ponderosa Elementary, 11th place; and Conner Caffrey, Sunrise Elementary, 13th place.

The teams from Liberty Lake and Sunrise will compete in the “Math is Cool Masters” May 21 at Moses Lake High School.

Community forums

The Central Valley School District will hold two community forums to meet finalists that will fill two principal positions in the district.

Linda Uphus of Liberty Lake Elementary School and Eileen Utecht of Broadway Elementary School will retire at the end of the school year.

The forum at Liberty Lake will be at the school, 23606 E. Boone Ave., Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The forum at Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway Ave., will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 10.

Fundraising events

• Centennial Middle School, 915 N. Ella Road, will serve a pancake breakfast today from 9 to 11 a.m. to raise funds for the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

The event will include a raffle, a Shorinji Kempo demonstration, an origami station and more.

Tickets are $7.

• University High School will present Family Portrait Day May 14 to benefit the Senior All-Nighter.

Classic Image Photography will offer a $10 sitting fee for families and everyone who registers will get a free 8 by 10 family portrait. The All-Nighter will get the $10 fee, plus a percentage of any portrait packages ordered.
