South of Spokane: Firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10 plan their attack before hiking up a hill through a haze of smoke along Highway 195 just south of Spokane where two small fires were reported Wednesday about 3:30 p.m. Crews from multiple agencies responded, including Spokane County Fire District 3, the Bureau of Land Management and Turnbull Wildlife Refuge. Officials believe the fires may have been caused by hot carbon coming from a semitruck pulling a heavy load up the hill. No injuries were reported in the fires, which burned 1.3 and 1.6 acres.
