Women’s hoops: Cooper, hot-shooting Eagles beat Red Wolves

Chene Cooper scored a season-high 18 points to propel the Eastern Washington Eagles to a 72-51 victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves at the Arizona State Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

Cooper connected on 5 of 8 attempts from the floor and all eight of her free throws. She added four assists and three steals and was named to the all-tournament team.

Brianne Ryan scored 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added four rebounds and a career-high four steals.

EWU (4-4) forced a season-high 31 turnovers and held the Arkansas State (2-5) to a season-low 45 shot attempts for the game.

George Fox 81, Whitworth 69: The Pirates’ challenging start to their Northwest Conference season continued as Whitworth fell behind the unbeaten and third-ranked Bruins early and suffered a defeat at Whitworth Fieldhouse.

George Fox (6-0, 2-0) got 23 points from Keisha Gordon and a 19-point, 10-rebound performance from Hannah Munger.

The Pirates (2-6, 0-2), who trailed 40-25 at halftime, were paced offensively by Lexi Belcher’s 19 points.

Casper (Wyo.) 83, North Idaho 73: Rosalie Cutri tallied game highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds to power the Thunderbirds (8-0) to a win over the Cardinals (6-2) in Coeur d’Alene.

Korina Baker led NIC with 16 points, while Julia Salmio added 15 points and 10 boards.

Hannah Love came off the bench to score 14 for the Cardinals. NIC’s Angela Woods and Kate Buskey scored 12 and 10, respectively.
