Griz hold off Badgers 59-56
Jeron Konkright and Jared Schultz came up big in the final 11 seconds to secure a 59-56 nonleague boys win for Newport over visiting Bonners Ferry on Monday night.
With the Grizzlies (4-1) nursing a 57-56 lead, Konkright was fouled with 11 seconds to play and knocked down two free throws to produce the final score.
But the win wasn’t secured until Schultz came up with his fourth steal of the night with 3 seconds to play.
Jake Wiley led the scoring for Newport with 21 points and Spencer Douglas added 12. Bradly Clausen led the Badgers (2-3) with 18 and Andre Zarate had 12.
Colville 66, Wellpinit 33: JR Henry had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Alex Pond added 15 points and 10 boards to lead the Indians (4-2) to the nonleague home victory over the Redskins (2-2).
Brodie Ford had 13 points for Wellpinit, 12 coming on four 3-pointers.
ACH 68, Pateros 42: Derek Isaak augmented 23 points with nine rebounds and six assists to lead Almira/Coulee-Hartline (2-0) to the nonleague victory. Thunder Wellhausen added 12 points and nine boards.
The visiting Billygoats were led by Blaine Harvey (18 points) and Ryan Easter (16).
St. Michael’s 69, N. Idaho Christian 40: Gabe Durazo went off for 30 points and Chris Shelley added 16 to lead the Warriors (2-3) to the nonleague road win.
Girls North Star League
Clark Fork 38, Wallace 32: The Wampus Cats made some defensive adjustments at halftime, held the visiting Miners scoreless in the third quarter to erase a 20-13 deficit, and pulled away to victory.
Tess Vogel led Clark Fork (4-1) with 11 points, four coming in the key third period, and Jessica Driver scored five of her seven points in the period.
Amanda Pehan led Wallace (2-5) with nine points and Courtney Jennings added eight.
Nonleague
Newport 49, Bonners Ferry 39: Senior Taylor Lewis’ solid all-around game – 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals – led the unbeaten Grizzlies (5-0) to the win over the visiting Badgers (2-3).
Aubree Wasmer scored 16 points to lead Bonners Ferry.
Colton 65, Lapwai 36: Paige Vincent led three double-figure scorers for the Wildcats (4-0) with 19 points in the victory. Raylynn Smith scored 12 on four 3-pointers and Haley Moser added 11, hitting two 3-pointers.
Natahnee Spencer led Lapwai (6-2) with 23 points, going 11 for 14 at the free-throw line.
ACH 58, Pateros 40: Madeline Isaak scored 18 points for Almira/Coulee-Hartline (2-0), which broke things open with a 24-point second quarter en route to the victory over the visiting Billygoats.
St. Maries 55, Kootenai 26: The tandem of Kaytrin Thaut (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Dusti Huddleston (14 and 12) led the Lumberjacks (1-4) past the visiting Warriors (0-4).
Brie Benson led Kootenai with eight points.
N. Idaho Christian 34, St. Michael’s 19: Two points in the first half doomed the Warriors (1-3) in the road loss.
